Being at the seaside is all about seeing the sea. The sheer scale of the sea and the distant horizon give tranquility and peace but also hope and a sense of adventure. And so coastal towns are organized to see as much sea as possible. A promenade is situated along the beach and buildings are positioned parallel to the sea in order to have a frontal sea view. Even though the buildings are thus facing north the attraction of the sea is the most important.
These photos were taken in the coastal town Knokke (B) and explore the relationship with the sea. Although the sea is the main attraction, it’s not always possible to see it.
