Summer photographs of beach life in Duinbergen (B) and along the coast of Cornwall (UK). This series of diptychs investigates what is generic and what is specific. In our global mass production era current beach culture tends to be identical across the world. Similar bathing suits, inflatable water toys, striped parasols etc litter the beaches during summer. Summer holiday photographs therefor seem interchangeable across the world. Every year a kind of beach culture blanket unfolds, covering the coastal landscapes. Not only the blankets and parasols, but also dikes and quay walls are attempts at fixing the dynamic landscapes and rendering them more and more generic. What remains visible of the underlying specific magnificent landscapes? And what is pushed back or hidden?
